Having a clean wood fired oven is an important step for a great tasting pizza.
In this article, I will explain how to clean your oven before and after use as the process is slightly different.
To clean a wood-fired oven after use, follow these steps:
This step occurs after you have used your oven and it’s cooled. Avoid cleaning an oven while it’s still hot.
- Dust pan and brush
- Pizza peel or large spatula
- Scrubbing brush – hard bristles with a long handle
- Long handled mop (optional)
- Old rags or towels
- Bucket of water
- Bi-carb of soda and vinegar
Instructions:
- Allow the oven to cool completely. Do not attempt to clean the oven while it is still hot, as this can be dangerous.
- Remove any large pieces of ash or debris from the oven using a broom or dustpan.
- Scrape the walls of the oven using a pizza peel or spatula to remove any stuck-on food or grease.
- Wipe the walls of the oven with a damp cloth (or mop) to remove any remaining dirt or grime.
- Mix a solution of equal parts water and bi-carb of soda, and use it to scrub the walls of the oven. This will help to remove any stains or odors.
- Rinse the walls of the oven with water, and dry thoroughly with a clean cloth.
- To remove any remaining stains or odors, you can also use a mixture of vinegar and water, or a commercial oven cleaner. Follow the instructions on the product carefully, and be sure to ventilate the area well.
- Once the oven is clean and dry, you can reassemble the doors and vents, and your oven is ready to use again.
It’s important to clean your wood-fired oven regularly to maintain its efficiency and prolong its lifespan.
