Have you ever been camping and desired pizza because pizza is the best food in the world?

So, what is better than making pizza at home, is making pizza while camping.  A great lunch or dinner idea when entertaining the kids, family or friends. It is also a perfect activity for the kids to be involved with although make sure to keep them away from fire and hot coals.

To make pizza over a campfire, you will need:

  1. Pizza dough (you can either make your own or purchase it pre-made)
  2. Pizza sauce
  3. Cheese (mozzarella is a good option)
  4. Any desired toppings (such as vegetables, meats, and herbs)

Instructions:

  1. Build a campfire and let it burn down to a bed of hot coals.
  2. While the fire is burning down, prepare your pizza dough and toppings.
  3. Preheat a cast iron skillet or griddle over the hot coals for about 5 minutes.
  4. Roll out the pizza dough to your desired thickness and place it in the preheated skillet or griddle.
  5. Spread the pizza sauce over the dough, then add the cheese and toppings.
  6. Cover the skillet or griddle with a lid or aluminum foil, making sure to leave a small opening for ventilation.
  7. Place the skillet or griddle back over the hot coals and cook the pizza for about 8-10 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  8. Remove the skillet or griddle from the fire and let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Tips:

  • If you don’t have a cast iron skillet or griddle, you can also place the pizza directly on the hot coals, using a metal baking sheet or pizza stone as a base. Just be sure to keep an eye on it and rotate it regularly to ensure that it cooks evenly.
  • You can also use a Dutch oven to bake the pizza. Simply place the dough, sauce, cheese, and toppings in the Dutch oven and place it on the hot coals. Cook for about 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  • For added flavor, try brushing some garlic or herbs over the top of the pizza before cooking.
  • If you don’t have a campfire, you can also cook pizza over a grill or in a home oven.
